Begin your journey right with Nasc Canine's puppy training. We address common owner concerns, establishing a solid bond and setting the stage for a lifetime of companionship. This proactive approach aims to prevent future problems. Start your puppy's journey on a path of growth, understanding, and mutual respect.
Our philosophy is rooted in a balanced approach, guided by the principles of operant conditioning's four quadrants, inspired by Tom Davis at The Upstate Canine Academy.
Operant conditioning is a fundamental principle in behavioral psychology that explains how behaviors are learned and modified through consequences. This theory states that an individual's behavior is influenced by the reactions it produces in the environment. In other words, behaviors followed by favorable consequences are more likely to be repeated, while those followed by unfavorable consequences are less likely to recur.
Adding a rewarding stimulus following a behavior increases the likelihood of that behavior being repeated. For example, giving a dog a treat or a toy for sitting on command encourages the dog to sit again in the future.
Removing an aversive stimulus following a behavior increases the likelihood of that behavior being repeated. For example, turning off pressure when a dog completes a command, reinforces the behavior of the specific command.
Adding an aversive stimulus after a behavior decreases the likelihood of that behavior being repeated. For example, adding leash, body or verbal pressure when a dog shows undesirable behaviors.
Removing a rewarding stimulus following a behavior to decrease the likelihood of that behavior being repeated. For example, not giving a treat when a dog doesn't complete a known behavior.
